Golden Yellow

GoldenThis is my entry for Studio Friday.  The theme is Golden Yellow.  Usually not a color that I work with, but I did a challenge in an online group to create something inspired by Gustav Klimt's painting The Kiss.

These are called canes.  They are little tubes of designs made by stacking and rolling colors of clay together.  I cut off thin cross sections of the canes and layer them unto my beads.  I have lots of little boxes that are filled with canes.  Some are like old family recipes, others are experiments or complicated designs.  When I'm going to make a new batch of beads, I first mix up an artist's palette of custom colors and then I create the canes.  After that I'll spend a few days producing a series of beads.  Some beads I make just two or three batches before the canes are used up, others I have been making for over a year, replacing the canes over and over again.

KlimtbeadsHere are the beads that I created using those canes.  I'll have a few sets up for auction this weekend.  I'm also working on a series of pendants inspired by some of my favorite artists.  Klimt, Van Gogh and Monet to start.

Oh and I have to tell you, today was perfect.  It was actually chilly!  I wore a scarf and my favorite vintage knitted cardigan.  The windows were open all day.  Now if only it would stay this way!  I think we are done with the 90 degrees though.  I keep dreaming of mittens and snowflakes.  Maybe we'll be able to take a trip to Michigan for Thanksgiving.  It snowed when we went last year.  The girls still talk about it!

Those are beautiful Heather. Hope you got your mitten and scarf weather.

Wow - those beads are fantastic! I tried that method with polymer clay, but it didn´t work out so well and I gave up...Yours are simply amazing!

Beautiful beads and I love the name of your studio.

This is so fun to see, because I don't know anything about making beads. And the ones you make always looks great.
