I know you are all waiting to hear how it went! (Sorry Mom, I'll call you first thing in the morning.) It was so much fun and hard work, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
The crew arrived this morning at 8am, yikes. It was the director, producer, camera man and sound guy. They were all just as nice as could be and the joking around started before they were even set up. In no time the studio was filled with lights, cameras, a monitor and tons of cords. They outfitted me with a mic. and we were off to the park.
They had me sit on a log next to the lake and sketch while they zoomed up on me. I said my lines, the director said, "Perfect, now let's do it again." We only did it a few times and I was feeling pretty confident. We headed back to the studio and zipped through the first half of making my dragonfly fairly quickly. I didn't think about it much, I just said what I was doing and then did it. It was pretty straight forward. But as the afternoon went on, I got a little tongue tied and I'd forget what to say, but they just coached me along and we got through it. Did they make me do goofy things? Uh, have you watched the show? They are ALL about the goof and I was not immune. I can't remember every stupid thing I did, but I gave them more than enough to fill the segment with their special brand of "crazy artist in the studio" footage. For sure I flew my little dragonfly around, peaked though the hole of a bead, said, "I carve, I carve, I carve and I carve," as I moved closer and closer to the camera. Did that whole pretend to roll the ink on the camera thing. And then there was the bit with a scarf and you don't want to even know. Hopefully that ends up on the "cutting room floor", but I have a feeling the goofier, the more likely it will end on screen.
One thing that was a little tricky, you had to say everything in the first person. No, "now we are going to" or "you can." And I kept saying, now or next. So I had to say my lines over many a time after adding in those no no's. Now I know why actors get the big bucks, it was not as easy as it looks!
We moved on to the second segment making my little mermaid print. That went much easier and faster. I did a birthday invitation for the show, I also had a garland made with the prints and strung up on crazy eyelash yarn and I made goodie bags with same print in the teal. So we took all that out back along with some noise makers and my girls and we shot the closing scene together.
We finished at 2pm, a half an hour earlier than was scheduled. They said everything was great and that the segment went really well. We'll have to see this fall when it airs. I will be just as surprised as you when it airs, it will be so much fun to see what they do with all that footage!
Now I want to wear a button that says, "I'm going to be on HGTV," but I'll contain myself. For now.
I've decide to sell some of the prints to celebrate. You can own a little piece of history. Funny!
I have 30 hand-colored and numbered prints ready to go out to new homes. They are printed on vellum and colored with oil pastels, just like the one pictured here. The print measures 4 x 6 inches and is unframed. They are $15.00 plus $3.85 for shipping. Your print will be shipped out to you by priority mail. Just email me to place your order. Payments are made through Paypal using any major credit card, I will email you an invoice. I can't wait to send one out to you!
There is a little bit of eyelash yarn in the scan, that's from the invitation, your print won't have any yarn.

I knew I could read about your adventure with HGTV in your blog before you called. I am so glad you had great time with the filming. You can still call me and tell me all the details *grin*
Love Mom

Congratulations! Sounds like it was a great day. It's nice to hear the people behind the scenes are as nice and fun as those in front of the camera. I look forward to seeing your segment!
