Upcoming Events - April

ImpulsePoetry Workshop this weekend with author Ellen Hopkins.  The workshop runs from 10 - 12pm at Borders bookstore in the Quarry Shopping Center.  This event is free and open to the public.  Ellen will sign books after the workshop.

TLA Conference is in San Antonio this week at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center, downtown.  The exhibit hall is worth checking out.  You can purchase an exhibit hall only pass for $20 for the weekend.  Hours are 10-5 today and Saturday.  Publishers from all the country have booths there, see what's in print now, purchase books and you might even meet an author or two.  The Texas SCBWI chapters have two booths at the event!

September/October Upcoming Events

September 30th - Great Read Event at the Houston Street Fair in Downtown San Antonio from 12 - 7 p.m.

Members and published authors/illustrators are invited to take part in the SCBWI-SWTX booth at this event. At our booth, children are going to make Magic Books. They are really easy, fun and fast. No art experience required. Anyone who would like to join the booth for an hour during the day can e-mail Heather.

This object for the event is to feature our local published authors, introduce our organization to a wider community audience and advertise for the upcoming conference.

We will promote our published authors in the following ways: display copies of your books, give away bookmarks/postcards promoting your work and speaking engagements. We would also like to collect signed copies of books to donate to a local school. We'll hold a raffle on the day of the event. Kids can enter their school, and we'll choose one winning school to donate the books to their library.

HEB is sponsoring the event, giving away a few FULL scholarships for a contest they sponsored, along with having special speakers and other events going on all day.
